The David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship is open to students graduating in the 2016-17 academic year (not before September 2016 nor later than mid-June 2016) with a minimum of a masters degree in any discipline, field or profession.
Individuals who do not possess previous health policy experience in Washington, DC will be given preference.
The Winston Fellowship is open to any Master's or Doctoral degree student in any department of a college or university that is a Full or Associate Candidate member of AUPHA. If you are not certain of your university's status, please refer to the AUPHA Member Programs List: Association of University Programs in Health Administration.
Application materials should be submitted directly to the Fellowship via the online form linked below no later than October 14, 2016. Application requirements include:
A statement of interest that details your motivation for a career in health policy and a description of what you hope to gain from the Fellowship, and how your experiences and education will complement the David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship. The statement should not exceed 1,200 words.
Three letters of recommendation; one from a current faculty member in the program, department, or school in which you are enrolled; one from a current or former supervisor, employer or preceptor and one from an individual who is knowledgeable about your academic and/or leadership experience. Letters must be dated within 2 months of application submission, addressed to the Fellowship, and specifically address the Fellowship criteria.
Academic transcripts (both undergraduate and graduate). Transcripts may be photocopies and need not be sent through the university. Online grade reports will not be accepted unless sent electronically directly from the registrar. A key to interpreting coding on transcripts must accompany the transcript that do not use the A-F grading format.
A narrative synopsis of your past and current extracurricular and volunteer activities in the community and on campus. Do not exceed 1 page.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
Complete applications must reach AUPHA no later than close of business on October 14, 2016. Applications will be screened for completion and eligibility then forwarded to the Selection Committee.

The National Selection Committee will invite several nominees to Washington, D.C., for an interview in January 2017. The Fellowship offer will be extended the same day.

STIPEND & EXPENSES
The Fellowship winner(s) will be appointed to the staff of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration for purpose of salary and benefits administration.
The Fellowship stipend, which is taxable as regular income, is $4,250 per month. A benefits program is also provided. The Fellowship provides up to $2,500 for pre-approved travel expenses incurred by the Fellow during the required relocation to Washington, DC. A budget is provided for the Fellow to travel to conferences and meetings. All other expenses are the responsibility of the Fellow.
The Fellowship will begin in June 2016, and end 12 months later. The Fellow is expected to complete the full 12-month Fellowship.
