Jane Hyatt Thorpe

Jane Hyatt Thorpe, J.D. is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Milken Institute School of Public Health and Director of the Healthcare Corporate Compliance Program at the George Washington University. She specializes in healthcare law and policy in the areas of Medicare, Medicaid, health care delivery systems and financing, health information exchange and technology, and corporate compliance. Professor Thorpe also served as a Senior Advisor in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from July 2012-15.

Prior to her academic appointment, Professor Thorpe served as the Deputy Director of the Office of Policy for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) within HHS. She was responsible for crosscutting policy and strategic planning focusing on emerging issues in healthcare delivery and financing.   Professor Thorpe also served as the Associate Vice President for Payment and Policy at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) and practiced healthcare law providing regulatory and transactional counsel.

Professor Thorpe has an A.B. magna cum laude in History and a Certificate in American Studies from Princeton University and a J.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Law.  She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Healthcare Corporate Compliance Association, Academy Health, and the D.C. Bar Health Law Section and is admitted to the bar in Tennessee and the District of Columbia.
